We at FM follow the fitness and nutrition industries throughout the year and we’re always on the lookout for popularity trends in nutrition and training. Over the past year I’ve seen the emergence of these big trends that I’m predicting will see a surge in popularity this year.
Of course, these are just my predictions and I wouldn’t immediately call your bookie and place a bet because I’ve been known to be wrong once or twice in my day.
So let’s get right down to it and see what we can expect to dominate in 2012:
Fitness
- Boot Camps will become less popular and possibly die off the top 10 list.
- Suspension Training will take over the world. Be it ring training, TRX training, or a combination – people are becoming addicted to the fast results the entertaining workouts produce.
- Competitions such as marathons, tough mudder, triathlons, weight-lifting competitions, and similar will all become much more popular than they already are.
Nutrition
- Eating Meat Will Get More Respect. Our caveman ancestors only had access to meat year round. In the winter we obviously weren’t eating fresh fruits and vegetables but instead our diet was based mostly on meat. The human body evolved eating meat and only in the past couple of decades have so-called health experts declared it to be unhealthy. Well I’m calling bull on that one.
- Farmer’s Markets will continue to rise in popularity and success. By shopping your local farmer’s market you not only support your local farmers and economy, but also know for a fact and without a shadow of a doubt – you’re getting the freshest, unprocessed produce possible! If you think of your body like a racecar, you (and your racecar) are going to perform and feel similar to the quality of fuel you’re putting in the gas tank.
- People will become less interested in “counting calories” and more interested in eating according to their body type and metabolism. Following will be an increased interest in “metabolic training,” being that metabolic training is (short definition): completing structural and compound exercises with little rest in between exercises in an effort to maximize calorie burn and increase metabolic rate during and after the workout.
Lifestyle
- Households will begin training together to increase feasibility, camaraderie, and visibility of cost versus effect.
- Couples and families will begin to employ professionals to train them with the same necessity they hire a CPA to work their finances and taxes.
- People will begin cooking more meals at home and less pre-prepared meals or out at restaurants, not only to save on greenbacks but also to “kill two birds with one stone” and eat healthier and get healthier.
